Tips on macOS

Things on this page are fragmentary and immature notes/thoughts of the author. Please read with your own judgement!

  1. Print Mac OS X operating system version information.

    sw_vers -productName

  2. iTerm2 is the best termimal application in Mac.

  3. You can use Homebrew to install applications in Mac similar to the command apt-get or wajig in Debian series of Linux distributions. However, you do not have to run the command brew with sudo. As a matter of fact, you should never do this.

Key Repeating

  1. Run the following command in terminal and then restart your Mac to enable key repeating by pressing and holding.

    defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool false

  2. Run the following command in terminal and then restart your Mac to disable key repeating by presing and holding.

    defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool true

Touchpad

  1. Enable tapping (for click) by checking the checkbox Tap to click in System preference... > Trackpad > Point & Click.

  2. Enable tapping with two fingers for right click by checking the checkboxs Tap to click and Secondary click in System preference... > Trackpad > Point & Click.

  3. Tapping is automatically disable while typing on Mac.
